Become a Volunteer

Would you like to make a difference for some of society’s most vulnerable?

Mændenes Hjem Clothing Depot

As a volunteer at Mændenes Hjem, you will become an important part of our daily work with people who live with homelessness, addiction, mental disorders and other complex challenges. You will become part of a strong community where, together, we create calm in the chaos over a cup of coffee, a meal or a chat about clothes and life.

Why become a Volunteer?

When you become a volunteer with us, you become part of something bigger.
You meet people who are rarely met with openness and respect elsewhere. You contribute to dignity, presence and community.

What do we expect from you?

We do not require specific professional qualifications. The most important thing is your attitude and the desire to meet the vulnerable with respect and equality.

Become a Volunteer at Mændenes Hjem

As a volunteer at Mændenes Hjem, you help those who have the least. You become part of a strong community where together we create calm amid chaos. You’ll meet people who are rarely welcomed with open arms elsewhere.

Where can you volunteer?

Clothing Distribution

In our clothing project, we distribute free and clean clothing adapted to the weather to the socially vulnerable. This is about more than practical needs – clothing creates health, warmth and self-respect.

As a volunteer, you must be physically robust and ready to lift, walk and stand a lot. You must have the energy to meet people at eye level, regardless of whether they are just looking for dry socks or need a longer chat.

Morgenmadsprojektet in H17

Every morning – both weekdays and weekends – volunteers serve breakfast in the drug intake room H17. You help make coffee and breakfast in the kitchen and serve with the support of the staff. You don’t have to be very skilled in a kitchen. The most important thing is that you want to serve with care, and that you help create a space with presence and room for both peace and humor for those who wake up after a night on the street.

Café Dugnad

Café Dugnad is a café and a sanctuary for socially vulnerable people in Vesterbro. Free meals are served here every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as coffee and tea. Clean equipment for drug use is also handed out, and bridge-building work is carried out to relevant social and health professional efforts. At Café Dugnad, we work actively with harm reduction.

As a volunteer at Café Dugnad, you prepare and serve food and drinks, and you help to create an environment characterised by respect, inclusiveness and humour. We expect you to receive all guests in an equal manner. The environment in and around the café can be characterised by chaos, and the guests’ behaviour is often conditioned by their hard-lived lives. It is therefore important that you possess a certain amount of robustness and maturity.

How we help at Mændenes Hjem

We receive 3-600 citizens per day. At Café Dugnad, we serve 250 free hot meals daily to people on the street.
