Café Dugnad is a low-threshold offer, where no requirements are set for access. Here, you are welcome exactly as you are. We offer free food, hot drinks and access to drug use tools. But more importantly: We offer security, recognition and a place to be.
Many of our daily guests live with serious challenges such as mental illness, addiction and homelessness. When life is characterized by constant survival, a meal, a rest and a friendly meeting with another human being can be what holds the day together.
Therefore, Café Dugnad is more than a café. It is a place where you can catch your breath. Where there is room to just be, without having to perform or explain. Our staff and volunteers meet everyone with respect, presence and professional knowledge – and without judgment.
We know how important it is to get proper food, especially if you do not have access to a kitchen, refrigerator or finances to shop. Therefore, we serve three free meals every day: Breakfast at opening, lunch at 1:00 PM and dinner at 5:00 PM. In addition, there is often fruit, bread and coffee during the day. When possible, we also offer take away, so guests can take food with them if they do not want to eat in the café’s often lively environment.
Café Dugnad is visited by around 300 people every day. Over 200 portions of hot food are handed out, and we provide tools for safe drug use. We work every day to create an environment where no one feels alone – and where even the most pressured everyday life gets a little structure and human contact.
At Café Dugnad, we meet people with open arms and care. We do not offer substance abuse treatment, but we are happy to help them move forward. When a guest expresses a desire for support, treatment, or contact with the healthcare system, we are ready to build a bridge.
We work closely with Sundhedsrummet, which is located right next to the café, and with other social and healthcare professionals in Copenhagen. Our focus is on creating relationships and offering a base that can be the first step forward.
