Café Klare is a women-specific, low-threshold service – and the only one of its kind in Denmark, where you are welcome regardless of whether you are in crisis, living with homelessness, violence, mental illness, addiction, or other social exclusion. Here, there are no requirements for participation or change – there is room just to be.
For many women, the mixed-gender homeless services can feel unsafe. Therefore, Café Klare was created as an alternative – a shielded space with care and peace, only for women, including trans women. The atmosphere is characterized by respect and presence, and there are always staff awake and present throughout the night.
You decide how social you want to be. Some need silence. Others find community in a movie night, a game of bingo, or a meal made together with volunteers. Once a week, a volunteer masseuse comes and offers treatment. Nothing is a requirement – everything is an offer.
Café Klare offers accommodation, food, showers, clean clothes, and support, if desired. There is room for 16 women at a time, and around 200 new women use the service each year. Many return when life becomes difficult again.
We are happy to help onward to, for example, psychiatry, crisis centers, or homeless units – but only if you ask for it yourself. Help is never given as a condition for being here.
