Health and social care

Sundhedstjek hos Mændenes Hjem til socialt udsatte
The Health Room is a low-threshold health service for the most vulnerable citizens. These are people who cannot be accommodated within the requirements that the ordinary healthcare system and social authorities place on attendance and behaviour.

We are a holistic initiative based on harm reduction that does not require any ‘admission ticket’. There is free access, directly from the street without prior arrangement.

The Health Room is located on Halmtorvet, in the middle of the active drug scene in Copenhagen’s Vesterbro district. We work closely with the other departments of Mændenes Hjem.

A Sanctuary, Acute Help and Long-Term Support

You can come in off the street and get help – for the body, for the mind, for life. You can get a bath, rest, clean socks and peace. You can also get help with wounds, infections, psychological crises or traumas. We offer both acute help and long-term support, depending on what makes sense for the individual.

A Multidisciplinary Team – with Trust at its Centre

Nurses, doctors, podiatrists and social workers work side by side here. You can get treatment for hepatitis, wound care, blood tests, vaccinations, as well as support for medication management or contact with, for example, psychiatry, crisis centres or addiction treatment. We also help with hospitalisations and follow up after discharge, if necessary.

We See the Whole Person

Every day we meet 60-70 people. For many, the Health Room is the only place where someone listens and asks how they are. Therefore, we build relationships and meet the individual with presence and not with conditions. For us, health begins with trust.
