ORGANISATION

Mændenes Hjem provides security, support and new hope to those who have the least.

Mændenes Hjem is divided into three foundations, each with its own focus area, but all with the same purpose.

For over 100 years, Mændenes Hjem has helped socially vulnerable people and collaborates widely to create lasting solutions.

Organisation

Organisationally, Mændenes Hjem consists of three independent foundations, each with its own board, its own purpose and its own way of working. The foundations have different areas of focus, but what they have in common is that they all have an overall non-profit and charitable purpose aimed at the group of extremely vulnerable citizens. All foundations report to Mændenes Hjem’s director, Eva Secher Mathiasen, and the boards work closely together to ensure that Mændenes Hjem can jointly carry out initiatives for the socially vulnerable.

The Role of the Foundations

Mændenes Hjem is divided into three foundations: the Property Foundation, the Operating Foundation and the Mændenes Hjem Foundation.

The Property Foundation is a commercial foundation that plays three crucial roles in the work of Mændenes Hjem. They provide real estate and administrative services. They ensure that projects such as the clothing project, Social Frikort, project Blisko and the volunteer effort are run. And they handle donations to Mændenes Hjem and ensure that they go to initiatives for the socially vulnerable. The Property Foundation collaborates with other foundations and authorities who wish to participate in development and operational initiatives that are suitable for supporting initiatives for extremely vulnerable people.

The Operating Foundation operates various departments in accordance with sections 79, 107, 108 and 110 of the Social Services Law.

According to section 79 of the Social Services Law, the municipal council may initiate or grant subsidies for offers with an activating and preventive purpose. At Mændenes Hjem, this applies to Kontaktstedet, Café Klare, Sundhedsrummet and Café Dugnad.

All §79 departments at Mændenes Hjem are operated on grants from the Municipality of Copenhagen.

On Lille Istedgade 2, in addition to Kontaktstedet, there are three housing options: a collective, a co-housing community and a shelter. The three types of housing options refer to sections 107, 108 and 110 of the Social Services Law, respectively. All housing options at Mændenes Hjem are privately operated.

The Mændenes Hjem Foundation operates the drug consumption rooms H17 and Skyen on grants from the Municipality of Copenhagen.

The work of the Boards

The Board of each of the foundations has the overall responsibility for the foundation’s strategic management and development. The Board ensures that decisions are made in accordance with the articles of association, legislation and the foundation’s purpose. The Board approves budgets and accounts and ensures responsible governance. The Boards employ a director who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the overall organisation and who represents the organisation externally.

The Boards work closely with the Director to ensure sustainable and transparent operations in accordance with the individual foundations’ purposes and obligations.
